Fourth Wing #1 (The Empyrean Series) by Rebecca Yarros

Fourth Wing is basically what happens when someone takes an unhinged military academy, throws in sassy dragons & mixes in obscenely attractive students!  Violet Sorrengail, our main FMC, was supposed to live a quiet life as a scribe, far away from dragons and a certain someone.  Instead, her mother forces her into the Rider’s Quadrant, where cadets can die during training, challenges, or at the hands of their fellow class mates.  Basically anything with a pulse can be a threat and deadly at this academy.

Violet isn’t the strongest or the most physically member of Fourth Wing, which actually makes her far more interesting to follow. She survives through brains, stubbornness, and pure “I refuse to die today” energy.

The story is extra spicy and involves a dangerously handsome leader named Xaden Riorson, who will and has already made his way up many a fans “Book Boyfriend” list!

The audiobook pairs perfectly well with this. With so much high stakes drama, chaos and climatic moments, hearing the words being narrated aloud, really helps bring this world to life.

Is this the best fantasy book ever written?  No.  Are the characters unique? No.  Is the premise completely original, something we haven’t seen in some form before? No!  But my word is this entertaining!  You’ll find your head spinning a la Game of Thrones style, attempting to memorise all the characters and their intents, but the world building and dialogue keeps you reading and completely hooked.

This is a chaotic & addictive fantasy that completely pulled me in & by the time it ended I was already mentally preparing myself to grab the sequel so I could rejoin this world and lose myself in it!
